Paul Scholes sends Manchester United advice to Luke Shaw

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has issued a key piece of advice to Luke Shaw .

Scholes believes that the sometimes maligned Shaw has the capability to be one of the best left-backs in Europe but he has to want it.

The United great has questioned whether the 24-year-old has been fit enough in the past to cope with the demands of playing the full-back position.

Shaw was named in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's starting line-up for the Europa League last 32 second-leg tie at home to Club Brugge tonight and before the game, Scholes had some interesting words to say about the defender.

"As a left-back he can become anything he wants but it has to come from him," Scholes told BT Sport. "It's in his own head.

"He just hasn't stayed fit enough for long enough. If he wants to be one of the best left-backs in Europe he can be.

"He's strong and he's quick. He has a nice left foot. As a full-back you have to be one of the fittest on the field.

"He has proven recently that he hasn't got the engine to do that. He's not quite had the dedication to that role.

"If he had the dedication, I think he would be a top left-back."
