Paul Scholes names Manchester United best attacking trio

Paul Scholes does not believe Edinson Cavani is in Manchester United's best attacking line-up.

The forward came off the bench to impress for the Reds in their 2-2 draw with Leicester City as the Foxes twice came from behind to equalise.

Mason Greenwood was left on the bench for the game, with Daniel James retaining his place after United's 6-2 win over Leeds United the previous week.

Post-match on BT Sport, Scholes accused Ole Gunnar Solskjaer of leaving his best players on the bench and, when asked to clarify the statement, he revealed he did not necessarily mean Cavani.

Despite this, he still says the Uruguayan summer signing has an important role to play for United this season.

He said: "Leaving the best players out, I wasn't really including Cavani in that.

"I know he's a top centre-forward but he's coming to the end, I was thinking more of Mason Greenwood. I know he didn't come into the game but when those three start together, Greenwood, Martial and Rashford, with Fernandes in behind, I don't think anyone can handle them.

"It's great to have Cavani as an option coming on, as he did, and there will be some games he can play.

"There's 12, 13 or 14 players that United have to have fit to maintain a challenge and there'll be games where players like Dan James comes in, like Leeds last week.

"Cavani can do it in spells as well."

He added: "Cavani is United's only centre-forward. I just think the better option is probably Martial due to his pace and speed.

"United play on the counter-attack a lot more and it probably suits him more than Cavani.

"Cavani will have a big part to play, he's capable of scoring 15 to 20 goals, even if it's from the bench."
