Paul Scholes' Manchester United warning falls on deaf ears as 'lazy' duo set to face Liverpool

Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford will start for Manchester United despite Paul Scholes warning ahead of facing Liverpool.

The former United midfielder slammed the English pair, who started on their respective wings in midweek.

Solskjaer did not heed Scholes' warning, however, and has chosen to go with the same team that won 3-2 against Atalanta in the Champions League.

Scholes also stated that if Manchester United played the way they did against Atalanta versus a 'proper' team, it would be 'disastrous.'

It will be Rashford's first start in United's league campaign this season, as they look to control high-flying Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile Liverpool will be looking for back-to-back Premier League victories at Old Trafford for the first time since January 2002.

Jurgen Klopp has named two changes for the visitors from their 3-2 win against Atletico Madrid, as Mane drops to the bench for Jota and Konate replaces Matip.

In response to Greenwood and Rashford's performances, Scholes told Premier League Productions: "I think they’re [the forward players] just being lazy.

"I think the two wide players especially I thought we saw in midweek when United played a 4-2-4 with two sitting players and two wide players not running back.

"In Manchester United’s team if you’re a wide player and you’re not willing to run back you’re going to get exposed.

"That’s a way of playing that doesn’t tell me they can win the league. It’s a 50/50. It’s saying “My forwards are better than your forwards, we’re going to score more goals than you."
