Paul Scholes makes prediction about Paul Pogba's future at Manchester United

Paul Scholes believes that Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba will sign a new contract and end up staying with the club long-term.

The French midfielder was in sensational form in the opening Premier League game of the season, registering four assists as United defeated rivals Leeds 5-1 at Old Trafford, with Bruno Fernandes scoring a hat-trick.

Pogba has been linked with a move away from the club this summer, with Paris Saint-Germain interested in the 28-year-old World Cup winner. However, after signing Lionel Messi from Barcelona, that deal now seems dead in the water for this summer.

The former Juventus star has less than 11 months remaining on his current contract but the Reds are keen to extend and want to convince him to sign a new deal.

After his excellent performance, United legend Scholes believes that type of performance from the team could do exactly that.

Speaking as a pundit for the game on Premier League Productions, Scholes said: "I think he'll stay. A couple of years ago and last year when he's playing in a team that probably wasn't quite functioning as well as this one looks like it might do, with the amount of attacking players he's got, the ability he's got, I think he'll end up adding a lot to this team.

"I think he'll end up signing a new contract, with if this team continues in this manner, progressing like it is, I don't want to get too excited but it's a team that can go on to win trophies and that's what he wants to do."

If Pogba doesn't sign a new contract, he will be free to negotiate with foreign clubs from January 1st and could leave on a free transfer next summer.
