Paul Scholes makes Paul Pogba claim after Manchester United omission vs Burnley

Manchester United great Paul Scholes has offered his verdict on Paul Pogba after the star midfielder was left out of the squad for the clash at Burnley this evening.

Pogba re-aggravated a foot problem in September and also suffered from an illness but finally returned to action in the defeat at Watford earlier this month.

The 26-year-old followed up that substitute appearance by also appearing from the bench in the Boxing Day hammering of Newcastle United.

It was widely expected that these appearances off the bench would then lead to a start but instead United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has chosen to leave out the World Cup winner for precautionary reasons.

"Paul has played in two games now and he's been out for a while, so we didn't feel it was right for him to participate today," Solskjaer told MUTV.

Scholes has since responded to Solskjaer's comments and claimed that Pogba is not fit enough rather United simply resting the midfielder after his recent return.

"I think there must be something wrong with him. That is the only explanation. If he's fit, he has to play," Scholes told BT Sport.

"The manager will portray it to the public whatever way he wants. We have no way of knowing if he's injured or not in the right frame of mind.

"We just know if he's fit then he should be playing. It tells me that he is possibly not fit."
