Paul Scholes makes Liverpool claim and calls for more Manchester United exits

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes the club should have parted ways with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after the 5-0 home defeat to Liverpool.

Solskjaer was given his marching orders at Old Trafford on Sunday, a day after his side were trounced 4-1 by Watford in the Premier League.

The loss at Vicarage Road proved to be a nadir in a terrible run for the team, which included a loss to Manchester City in the derby and a defeat to Leicester City.

But arguably the most high-profile hammering of the season for United came in the clash with Liverpool, as a hat-trick from Mohamed Salah inspired the Reds to victory in a lopsided contest.

While Solskjaer was already under pressure before that humbling defeat on October 25, after Liverpool's emphatic win it felt as though there was never going to be a way back for him.

Speaking ahead of United's clash with Villarreal in the Champions League on Tuesday on BT Sport, Scholes was asked about the club's decision to change manager and suggested it should have come on the back of the Liverpool game.

"We talk about the people above," said Scholes. "Four weeks ago after that Liverpool game, that was the time, the time we knew Ole was going to go it was obvious.

"So the people above needed to prepare the next manager and next batch of the staff. I’d almost be embarrassed to be on the staff right now, after what happened to Ole, they all should’ve gone.

"Whether they were sacked or went off their own back because they were part of Ole’s team.

"Ole trusted them each week to prepare and they’ve let the club and the players down just as much as Ole has."

United's most recent defeat leaves them down in eighth in the Premier League, a whopping 12 points behind leaders Chelsea and eight back on Liverpool.

Ronaldo scored late on to give United a 1-0 lead against Villarreal in tonight's clash, with Jadon Sancho adding a second.
