Paul Scholes believes Manchester United will be able to take confidence into their upcoming fixtures following Sunday's 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
After failing to offer much in an attacking sense during the first half, United — who lined up without a recognised striker, with Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench — took the lead just five minutes into the start of the second half when Jadon Sancho robbed Jorginho of possession and raced through to coolly slot home his first Premier League goal.
Unfortunately for United, who carried an even greater threat after getting their noses in front, they were pegged back 19 minutes later when Jorginho stroked home a penalty, after Aaron Wan-Bissaka was guilty of bringing down centre-back Thiago Silva inside the penalty area.
Although the performance was far from perfect, it was a solid result for United, against a Chelsea side who had only dropped points on three occasions this term prior to Sunday afternoon's clash.
So while the Reds — who are set to head into Thursday night's clash with Arsenal under the guidance of incoming interim manager Ralf Rangnick — still have plenty of work to do, Scholes believes the point earned at Stamford Bridge could be the beginning of a positive spell.
Scholes told Premier League Productions : "It should give them a bit of confidence going to a Chelsea team that have been playing really well, especially coming away with a point. It can only be positive, really.
"They have got a few fixtures now where they're very winnable as well. Looking at their next eight, nine or ten fixtures... you hope they're winnable with the squad they have got, the players they have got and with a new coach coming in to refresh them a little bit.
"Going to a place like Chelsea and getting a point is a positive result."
A point earned at Stamford Bridge meant caretaker boss Michael Carrick has earned a win and a draw from his two games in charge in two tricky games.
And considering what had happened last weekend with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's sacking, Scholes said United couldn't have wished for more.
"Of course you would, you would definitely take it," added Scholes, when asked if a win and a draw would have been taken at the start of the week.
"It has been a turbulent week losing the manager. But Michael has done great, hasn't he? It has not been vintage football, but it has been football that has got United two good results."
