Paul Scholes insists Chelsea are ‘not ready’ to win Premier League title after Wolves setback

Paul Scholes insists Chelsea are “not ready” to win the Premier League title after their 2-1 defeat at Wolves.

The former Manchester United star, who won 11 titles at Old Trafford, has pinpointed a lack of experience alongside N’Golo Kante in Frank Lampard’s midfield as a weakness.

Mason Mount and Kai Havertz started alongside the Frenchman at Molineux in a midfield trident, with the balance not quite right as Nuno’s side rallied from a goal down to snatch all three points thanks to Pedro Neto’s stoppage-time strike.

And Scholes believes Chelsea are a year away from being able to capture their seventh title, after the Blues missed the opportunity to move back to the top of the table on Tuesday night.

“I just think there's a little bit a lack of creativity on the pitch. (N'Golo) Kante does what he does brilliantly well and he's got two young players next to him in Mason Mount and Kai Havertz, who I think will be sensational players, but that's why I don't think they'll win the league this year,” Scholes said on BT Sport.

“It's a bit early for them. They'll be up there, close to Manchester City and Liverpool I just don't think they are that ready.

“But in a year's time with a bit of experience, knowhow, bit more quality they'll be up there challenging.”

Lampard’s side have now lost back-to-back league games, with in-form London rivals West Ham next up at Stamford Bridge on Monday, in a fixture the Hammers won last season.
