Paul Scholes identifies Manchester United weakness but makes defensive admission

Manchester United great Paul Scholes has identified where the key weaknesses lie in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad ahead of the January transfer window.

Scholes has previously touched on the recruitment which is needed in January but he has now also spoken in detail about the areas which are the most concerning.

The former United midfielder was quick to hammer the attacking options at Solskjaer's disposal this season.

Marcus Rashford has flashed his quality at times but United have still only bagged 13 goals in 11 Premier League games this season.

Scholes feels that there must be some attacking additions in January to help the Red Devils change their fortunes.

"You look at the league position and it has been difficult," Scholes told BT Sport ahead of the Europa League clash at home to Partizan Belgrade.

"The big problem with this team is the attacking areas. The forward areas are a real struggle. It just looks like the quality is not there.

"In other areas they are there, especially in the midfield when (Paul) Pogba comes back.

"It's those creative areas and forward areas where it is a real struggle."

But whilst Scholes says attacking options are needed, he also insists that United may have already found their long-term centre-back partner for summer signing Harry Maguire.

"They could need a partner for Maguire, though (Axel) Tuanzebe looks a good option."
