Paul Scholes gives view on Marcus Rashford injury ahead of Man Utd vs Liverpool

Paul Scholes believes Marcus Rashford should be fit to face Manchester United's bitter rivals Liverpool this weekend despite being taken off shortly after coming on as a substitute in their FA Cup win over Wolves .

Rashford was thrown into the action in 64th minute, but had to be taken off again just over 15 minutes later after he went down clutching his back.

It is unclear at the moment whether United will be able to select their leading goalscorer for the game against Liverpool on Sunday, but speaking on BT Sport Scholes seemed optimistic about the England international's chances of recovering in time.

"It's a big blow because he's been by far and away Manchester United's best player, he's been their biggest goal threat," Scholes said.

"I think it's something that he actually picked up in the Manchester City game, where he got a bit of a knock on his back, but he played the Norwich game and was excellent on Saturday.

"This was an opportunity for him to have a break tonight and okay, it didn't work out because he had to come on as United were struggling a little bit but I think he'll be ok. Maybe a bit of ice and a couple of days rest but he'll be alright for Sunday."

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitted he regretted putting Rashford on against Wolves, but remained positive about his chances for the weekend.

He said: "I didn't want to play him. I think he got a knock, a knee or something, in his back, but he's been struggling for a little while.

"That's why we've kept him away (from starting against Wolves), but we needed the win."

"He's a quick healer and he'll play through some pain, definitely, if he's capable and it's not a bad, bad injury, but we've seen that he's struggled lately."
