Paul Scholes gives verdict on Manchester United unbeaten run after Brighton win

Paul Scholes needed only nine words to describe what he had seen from Manchester United against Brighton on Tuesday night.

"Well then... I think we have a football team," was the reaction from the United legend on Instagram after he'd watched Bruno Fernandes' brace and a fine goal from Mason Greenwood give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side a 3-0 victory at the Amex Stadium.

The three points boosted United in their battle to finish in the top four, while also extending their unbeaten run to 15 matches, stretching back to January.

The impact of Fernandes has been a huge factor in United's improvement under Solskjaer, while they've also been aided by the return of Paul Pogba from injury and the rise of 18-year-old star Greenwood.

Many United fans responded to Scholes' comments, which were included on his Instagram stories alongside a picture of Fernandes celebrating plus a series of emojies.

The fact Fernandes is wearing Scholes' old No.18 shirt has not been lost on supporters, one of whom said on Reddit: "#18 recognise #18."

Another said it was more than just Fernandes' impact that has helped United, adding: "I wouldn't say it's just him. Its Ole getting the best out of everyone. He helps a lot with breaking the offensive staleness. Overall he's one piece in the squad full of talented players."

Scholes is clearly very impressed with both Fernandes and United under his old Old Trafford teammate Solskjaer.

After the game, Solskjaer said: "I think it’s very important that you have players who chip in. Of course, Marcus [Rashford] and Anthony [Martial] have had the majority of the goals - 19 each this year.

“Bruno’s come in and done fantastic, Mason’s always chipping in with goals, we know Paul’s always going to get goals.

“It’s important. We’ve never had one... or we have, to be fair - we had Ruud! He scored 50 or 60 goals! And Cristiano. But we’ve had players who can win a game for you.”
