Oldham Athletic owner Abdallah Lemsagam has claimed that Paul Scholes resigned as the manager by text.
Scholes stepped down from his role at the League Two club on Thursday, after just 31 days in charge at Boundary Park.
The former Manchester United midfielder suggested that Oldham failed to live up to promises made when he took the job last month.
“It unfortunately became clear that I would not be able to operate as I intended and was led to believe prior to taking on the role,” Scholes said.
In a statement published on Oldham’s official website on Friday morning, Lemsagam said he was “disappointed” by Scholes’ decision to resign as manager.
The owner claimed that he gave Scholes the “autonomy” he desired and that he had resigned by text on Wednesday.
“I have been in Dubai over the last couple of weeks and actually at ease knowing that he was in charge,” Lemsagam said.
“I was very surprised as he simply resigned by text on Wednesday afternoon and has refused to discuss matters that influenced him to make his decision.”
Lemsagam added that Oldham have started their search for Scholes’ replacement and that assistant manager Mick Priest will remain with the club.
