Paul Scholes explains what Manchester United did wrong in three moments vs Liverpool

Paul Scholes said Manchester United's players made the wrong decisions in key second-half moments against Liverpool.

Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba saw major late opportunities saved by Liverpool keeper Alisson, as United played out a 0-0 draw at Anfield. It was a largely positive point for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side but United came away from Merseyside thinking they could have nicked a 1-0 victory.

Marcus Rashford also wasted a great chance on the counter-attack and Scholes said United fluffed their lines when it mattered at Anfield.

Analysing the game as a pundit for Premier League Productions alongside Michael Owen and Steve McManaman, the United legend looked back at the two big Fernandes and Pogba chances.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reacts to the draw with Liverpool

He said: "The first one, you've got to give credit to Alisson. You expect him [Fernandes] to score from there, the six-yard box, that's one where Michael [Owen] would tell you finishing-wise to go high into the roof of the net.

"Alisson made two great saves. The other chance I think Pogba had to go low.

"He's hit it well, smashed it hard, but I think anything low there gives you a chance. He slams it into his body and Alisson didn't know too much about it, it's just hit him."

Scholes then analysed Rashford's run on the break, which was broken up by Liverpool's auxiliary centre-back Fabinho. The former United midfielder thought Rashford should have played Edinson Cavani through on goal.

"I thought he should have played him in," added Scholes. "At one point during it, Fabinho does well to actually hold the position. There was a time to play him [Cavani] in. It was a great opportunity, I don't think he was ever going to get round Henderson. Fabinho does well, but Cavani was clean through — and with his pedigree and record... you wouldn't expect him to score because he's a top-class 'keeper but he'd have a great chance of scoring."
