Paul Scholes delivers scathing Manchester United vs Liverpool verdict he predicted

Paul Scholes has delivered a scathing verdict on the Manchester United nightmare he had already predicted.

Despite returning to winning ways in the Champions League against Atalanta, pundit and one-time Old Trafford favourite Scholes refused to get carried away with that pulsating comeback.

Indeed, he even suggested that Jurgen Klopp would be rubbing his hands together about the prospect of facing such an underwhelming yet star-studded United team.

Amid a five-star humiliation inspired by Mohamed Salah, that prediction or 'worst fear' was played out to a tee.

Paul Pogba saw red for United to compile their misery - but only when the game had already been put to bed by sensational hat-trick hero Salah.

Naby Keita and Diogo Jota were also on target for unbeaten Liverpool.

It's a catastrophic result which has already been picked apart in TV studios up and down the country.

Scholes said: "United have been really poor. Against their biggest rivals, in their biggest game, it's been difficult to watch. Ultimately it's just not good enough. I thought this was possible and all our worst fears have come true."

Fellow pundit Michael Owen added: "Manchester United don't seem to have any sort of shape to press from and Liverpool are on a different planet.

Do you agree with Scholes? Have your say in the comments section below.

"United's wide players don't track back and that means the defensive midfielders have had to go out wide, which leaves space in the middle - and all of those things have come true. Liverpool are an exceptional side at the top of the game and, if you give them any chances, they'll punish you.

"Mo Salah is flying at the moment - he's the best player in the world on form."
