Paul Scholes delivers his verdict on Manchester United after Tottenham win

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes believes tonight's UEFA Champions League clash with Atalanta will provide a good indicator of where United are currently at.

United produced the perfect response to their recent 5-0 hammering at the hands of Liverpool on Saturday, recording a comfortable and professional 3-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

Although it was a strong away performance from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's troops, it was against a poor and lacklustre Spurs side, so much so that it ended up costing manager Nuno Espirito Santo his job less than 48 hours later.

Considering Spurs offered little threat to United, former Reds ace Scholes, who correctly predicted that his old side would find themselves "four down by half time" if they repeated their first half showing against Atalanta almost a fortnight ago against Liverpool, believes tonight's clash in Italy will provide a good indicator of United's current fortunes, insisting the win at Spurs cannot allow United to get "carried away."

Scholes told BT Sport : "It was more the way they played in that Atalanta game that worried me going into the Liverpool game. I thought if they played that way they’d get beat and I don't often get things right so I'll take a bit of credit for that.

"After that game it was a big shock, then they played Tottenham and it looked like a solid team. We can't get carried away because Tottenham were in a mess.

"We’ll see tonight, going away in Europe is not easy and tonight will be a tougher test and well see what they're made of."
