Paul Scholes and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer strongly disagree on Man Utd's Europa League draw

Manchester United's reward for knocking out Real Sociedad in the last-32 of the Europa League, is a mouthwatering tie with Italian giants AC Milan.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side booked their side in the round-of-16 after a 4-0 win over the La Liga outfit, beating one of the tournament favourites in the progress.

In Milan they will face another highly fancied team in a tie the United boss suggests belongs in the Champions League.

He told the club’s official site: “We do have the tradition of making it hard for ourselves in draws. It's one of the those draws again that you feel could be a Champions League game.

"It's good for us to have these games to look forward to. This team needs challenges and we enjoy challenges and we embrace them.

“The tradition and history of AC Milan, it's a great club that we welcome and it's a great stadium that we go to there, and we're looking forward to it."

United will face off against the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Hakan Calhanoglu and Sandro Tonali. The Rossoneri are competing for the Serie A title, although Inter have opened up a four-point gap following their derby win at the weekend.

On Milan, Solskjaer added: "They're on the up and have done really well this season."

However, while the Red Devils boss has been full of praise for their upcoming opponents, his former teammate Paul Scholes has been far less flattering.

Speaking ahead of the draw on BT Sport, Scholes ran down the list of potential teams his old side could face, claiming they 'would cruise past Milan'.

"United have the best squad left in the competition," he started. "We thought that last year, but obviously Sevilla were around then & we know what they’re like in the EL.

"Man United are much better than Arsenal & Tottenham. I think United would cruise past Milan."

That prediction will now be put to the test, when the Italians head to Old Trafford on March 11, before the return tie at the San Siro a week later.
