Paul Robinson on 'huge' Newcastle United signing who has transformed the team

Former England international Paul Robinson has praised Martin Dubravka for his display at Stamford Bridge and his impact since joining Newcastle United.

The Slovakian shot-stopper pulled off another a couple of key saves as the Magpies delivered a resilient performance on Saturday afternoon.

Marcos Alonso's low driven effort ended the Magpies' resistance as Steve Bruce's side fell to a narrow defeat and dropped back into the Premier League relegation zone.

United's failure to register a shot on target and low possession stats once again have drawn criticism among certain pundits and supporters.

But Dubravka was one of several players to leave Stamford Bridge with his reputation enhanced, and Robinson labelled his performance as "outstanding".

The former Leeds United and Tottenham goalkeepers has likened the 30-year-old's impact on Tyneside to Alisson's at Liverpool.

Speaking to Football Insider, Robinson said: "I think he has been a huge signing for Newcastle as he has transformed the team.

“They needed a top-quality keeper and I think the way he has performed on Saturday was outstanding and while he’s not on the same level, I think he has had a similar impact on Newcastle to what Alisson has had on Liverpool.

“I think Newcastle, since Tim Krul left, have needed a top top goalkeeper as they had a real problem there, they brought Dubravka in on loan with a view to a permanent and they quickly made the deal permanent as his quality was easy to see and he showed that Saturday for Newcastle.”
