Paul Robinson makes Leeds United admission as he reveals hopes and expectations

Paul Robinson believes a top-10 finish is not beyond Leeds United this season - but would be happy just to survive in the Premier League.

Leeds are adapting to life back in the top flight after Marcelo Bielsa led them to promotion from the Championship last term.

After 10 games, the Whites are a respectable 12th in the table with 14 points on the board.

They have beaten Fulham, Sheffield United, Aston Villa and - most recently - Everton, while taking a point off Manchester City and giving Liverpool a scare before going down 4-3 in their opening fixture.

They have also suffered back-to-back 4-1 losses to Leicester City and Crystal Palace but, overall, it has been a positive start.

Speaking to Ladbrokes at the launch of its 5-A-Side Bet on Tottenham v Arsenal, former Leeds goalkeeper Robinson said: "It's absolutely brilliant to see Leeds back in the Premier League after 16 years in the wilderness.

"When they got relegated, nobody for one minute thought they'd spend longer than one or two years in the Championship, let alone being relegated to the third tier of English football and not playing in the Premier League for 16 years.

"It's been an incredibly tough road and over the years there have been players and managers who have worn that shirt and represented that club that you never would've thought were worthy of being there.

"It's been in some dark places in the last 16 years and so to see them back in the Premier League is absolutely brilliant for everybody involved."

Robinson added: "They've spent a lot, but they've spent wisely this summer.

"Marcelo Bielsa has a type of player he wants playing for him, and a certain type of person who he expects to play a certain type of way.

"And if you don't meet those expectations, you don't last very long at Leeds, so their recruitment is very thorough."

On his expectations for 2020-21, Robinson said: "Their realistic aim this season is simply to stay in the league, but I think they're capable of a lot more than that, as we've seen from their performances.

"The way they play, they're expansive and attacking but that means they're always going to be susceptible to losing 3-0 or 4-0, as we've already seen this season; they lost two games 4-1 back-to-back.

"Then they play out a draw against Arsenal and go and get a great win at Goodison Park. I think that's going to be the story of Leeds' season.

"I personally think they've got the potential to compete in the top half of the table, and a 10th place finish isn't out of their remit.

"But in all honesty, as a Leeds supporter, I'd take 17th place right now."
