Paul Robinson makes Daniel Levy claim after Tottenham chairman takes up new position

Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paul Robinson thinks that Daniel Levy has done an ‘excellent job’ as Spurs’ chairman and has hinted that he thoroughly deserves his new position on the European Club Association (ECA) board.

Manchester United’s executive vice-chairman, Ed Woodward, stepped down in April following the club’s decision to sign up for the proposed European Super League – a competition that was quickly met with worldwide protest.

Although Tottenham also agreed to quit the ECA after committing to join the Super League in April, the nine clubs who subsequently withdrew from the competition within days of its announcement were later reinstated, and Levy has now replaced Woodward on the board following widespread support from his Premier League peers.

Levy has built his reputation as a no-nonsense business executive who sells his players at his own price - as emphasised this summer by his firm stance over the sale of Harry Kane when Manchester City came calling.

He’s certainly come under a lot of scrutiny during his 20-year tenure, but Robinson thinks that the appointment shows the level of respect people in the business have for him.

Speaking about the appointment to Football Insider he said: “That comes from people that have dealt with him in business situations for a number of years now.

“I know Daniel and I hold him in very high regard from the dealings I have had with him.

“He has done an excellent job at Tottenham Hotspur and he has always had the best interest of the club at heart. He does what he thinks is right for the club.”

Robinson continued by explaining how Levy helped with developing the new stadium, and has suggested that he shouldn’t be overly criticised for what he does.

“If you look at the stadium, the training ground and the infrastructure you can see the forward planning. What he has done is nothing short of incredible.

“Yes, at times he has been criticised but all chairman are at times. They haven’t won a trophy for too long but the progression is there. Everything has been put in place for that club. You cannot criticise him.

“To have the recognition of his peers in the Premier League tells you an awful lot about the way he conducts his business.”
