Paul Reubens will play the Penguin's father on 'Gotham'

Oct. 13--Batman fans know that "Gotham" has featured plenty of Easter eggs and nods to existing Batman lore, but Paul Reubens' casting news has upped the ante.

During the show's panel at New York Comic Con this weekend, Robin Lord Taylor, who plays Oswald Cobblepot, a.k.a. the Penguin, announced that Reubens would be joining "Gotham" as his character's father.

"We don't know a lot about [Oswald's] father," said Taylor, according to Entertainment Weekly, which reported the news from the panel. "We just found out that I do have a father. And he will be showing up very soon, and he will be played by none other than Paul Reubens, a.k.a. Pee-wee Herman! He's playing my dad!"

And it won't be a one-off appearance, according to the Hollywood Reporter, which reports that Reubens will be a recurring guest star on the series.

This is not Reubens' first foray into the Batman universe. He previously appeared as the Penguin's father in "Batman Returns" in 1992. Tim Burton's incarnation of the character was named Tucker Cobblepot.

Other new faces on "Gotham" this season include Michael Chiklis, who will debut tonight as GCPD's Capt. Nathaniel Barnes, as well as James Frain and Jessica Lucas as villain siblings Theo and Tabitha Galavan (a.k.a. Tigress).

Check out the "Gotham" sizzle reel from NYCC below, which also includes Chiklis' Barnes introducing himself as the "new boss."
