Paul Redmond to face Ryan Scope at Bellator Dublin as he eyes injury-free 2020

Paul 'Redser' Redmond will face Ryan Scope at Bellator Dublin on February 22nd, the Irish Mirror can exclusively reveal.

The Team Ryano veteran (15-8) is set to return to the cage after missing out on September's Dublin card through injury when he faces the Englishman (10-3) at the 3 Arena.

And as he returns after a years' abscence, Redmond is targeting consistency in 2020 in a bid to push himself into the picture to challenge for a world title.

"I need to get back to winning, especially after a year layover - I've had a couple of them now," Redmond told the Irish Mirror.

"It's just getting those wins and being consistent. With this fight, I just want to win it to make it 3-0 with Bellator and get back fighting as soon as possible.

"(I want to) stay injury-free for the whole of 2020 - touch wood. Just get active again, because I don't think you can start calling out for shots at titles when you're a year off or you're getting injured.

"So if I can just get back consistent to where I'm fighting three and four times per year, get another two fights in soon - then I think I'll be able to call for a belt."

The former UFC fighter will be banking on his experience in February, refusing to make a prediction for the fight as he heads into his training camp.

Redmond added: "It's a bit away, so I'm starting my training now sort of as we speak but I'm looking forward to it especially after getting injured while getting ready for the last fight.

"Just the same as always now, I think I'm about 24 fights in so it's just the same as usual now.

"I never make predictions for fights, never. I don't like doing them because whatever you say never happens on the night. It never comes across. I'll be just doing the usual me: as soon as the bell goes I'll go 100 miles an hour for three rounds and that's it.

"Say if somebody says: 'I'm going to get an armbar in this fight', and you're working on an armbar the whole camp.

"What if your opponent is training armbar defenses for his whole camp? All I know is that I train really hard with some really hard guys in the gym. I got tough sparring partners, I've got a great wrestling team in the gym and I'm a Brazilian Jiu-jitsu black belt myself.

"I think it's my experience that I'll be able to put on him so I can go where I want to go and when I want to go."

Scope was in action at the 3 Arena in September when he succumbed to a TKO finish at the hands of Peter Queally in the co-main event, despite dominating the early skirmishes of their bout.

Tickets for Bellator Dublin: Gallagher vs. Ellenor are on sale now through Ticketmaster.ie and Bellator.com, as well as the 3Arena box office.
