Paul Pogba trains ahead of Manchester United comeback

Paul Pogba and Manchester United teammates stepped up their training regime ahead of the possible restart of the Premier League season next month.

Pogba filmed himself doing ball-work on his indoor training pitch in March and has this week ventured outside with teammates Victor Lindelof and Andreas Pereira.

Pogba, Lindelof, and Pereira observed social distancing rules while they trained at a park in Bowdon after exercise restrictions were eased in England. Odion Ighalo and Anthony Martial were also spotted training alone on Thursday.

United have installed a drive-thru testing station in the car park of their Carrington training complex to accommodate the planned return of players next week. It is expected players and staff will report to the facility to be tested on their arrival at Carrington, with players returning in small groups initially.

The testing will be done in line with Premier League protocols and guidelines, with discussions still taking place to finalise those procedures.

Protocols for group training and a return to competitive action are still being discussed between players, clubs, the Premier League and government health officials, but for now small groups are permitted to train together.

Pogba has made only two substitute appearances since his last start for United on September 30 after undergoing ankle surgery at the start of January.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said last week he expected to have a fully-fit squad to choose from if the season resumes in June. "Of course we're trying to improve all the time, develop as a team, and now we've got a full squad to choose from, and hopefully we've been looking after ourselves in the two months that we've been out.

"We just have to play it by ear and hope they click early. But let's get back to training first and then hopefully we can play soon."

Marcus Rashford has been checking in at Carrington twice a week over the last fortnight for additional treatment on his back injury. The United forward has not been doing any outdoor training on the premises and was the only player permitted entry on arrival.

Groundstaff at Carrington have started relaying pitches after the Under-23 and Under-18 campaigns were cancelled, but the MEN understands two pitches have been maintained for the first-team. The club has minimised staff at the training ground during the suspension of football.

United have not trained at Carrington since the season was suspended on March 13.
