Paul Pogba told he should 'never' play for Manchester United again with contract expiry looming

Frank McAvennie says Paul Pogba should never play for Manchester United again if he doesn't sign an extension at Old Trafford.

The Frenchman's contract is ticking down with the Reds and from next month, he will be allowed to discuss his future with teams in Europe in pre-contract talks.

He is currently out of action with a thigh problem, but his future has been under discussion for a number of months with a number of clubs said to be interested in the midfielder.

The former Scotland-man believes if the 28-year-old doesn't want to extend at the club then he shouldn't reserve a right to be in the squad.

During his career with the Reds, he has never been far away from criticism with Roy Keane and Graeme Souness often pinpointing the midfielder, but McAvennie has been the latest pundit to unleash a scathing verdict.

“The boy is a talent but he’s not performing,” he told Football Insider.

“For me, he sums up everything that has happened at Man United in the last couple of seasons.

“People have blamed the managers instead of the players, Really, there are no leaders in that dressing room.

“Based on how much money they paid, Pogba should be a true leader on and off the pitch there.

“He’s not even close to that. If he won’t commit to the club then fine, don’t play him.

“I’m sure Man United will be absolutely fine without him. If he won’t sign, he should never play for them again.”
