Paul Pogba steps up fitness in public training session with Man Utd teammates

Paul Pogba looked to be itching for a return to Premier League action as he trained alongside Manchester United teammates for a second time this week.

The World Cup winner was spotted going through training drills on a Cheshire pitch with teammates Anthony Martial, Victor Lindelof and Andreas Pereira, with social distancing being observed at all times.

The same four players were seen on the same stretch of grass on Tuesday, as the United stars limbered up for a potential return to the club's Carrington training ground on Tuesday next week.

Pogba has made just eight appearances for United this season as he has suffered from a troublesome ankle injury and related issues.

His last appearance saw him come on at half-time of the 4-1 win over Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Boxing Day, but he was said to be closing in on a return to the fold before football was halted amid the coronavirus crisis.

The Premier League's 'Project Restart' plans are gathering pace following a productive meeting with managers on Wednesday, although it is said that players are still seeking assurances over safety protocols before agreeing to return.

Some players were due to undergo the first set of coronavirus tests on Thursday, but there are still further hurdles to pass before clubs can agree to resume anything like 'normal' training sessions.

With managers hopeful of a full month of training before returning to matches, it is now widely expected that the provisional return date of June 12 will be put back one week to June 19.

The Premier League are set to agree to an idea that all 10 matches across a weekend be televised or streamed live across Friday to Monday.

Elite level European football will resume this weekend when the Bundesliga becomes the first major league to return.
