Paul Pogba is expected to return for Manchester United’s New Year’s Day trip to Arsenal – but Scott McTominay is facing an extended spell on the side-lines.
Pogba missed the 2-0 win at Burnley after suffering a setback in his recovery from ankle and foot injury.
But the France international’s absence was more of a precautionary measure due to the hectic Christmas schedule.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “He had 45 minutes (against Newcastle), but he's been out for a long while and he didn't feel right. He reacted to that one. We'll just have to take our time and get him ready for next time.
“When you've been out for such a while it's always going to take time until you're 100 percent.
“He wasn't ready today, because he's not really done too many games and he's had two in a few days and he just needed another day's recovery.”
McTominay has been ruled out after damaging knee ligaments in Man Utd’s Boxing Day win against Newcastle.
Solskjaer added: “I wouldn't expect him to be back within a few weeks. But he's always proved before if you give him three weeks he's back in two. But I don't know if it's three or four weeks. It might be something like this. We’ve just got to find a way through it.”
