Paul Pogba set to miss out on Real Madrid move as Man Utd reject bid

Paul Pogba is set to stay at Manchester United for the start of the season, at least, after the Red Devils rejected an offer from Real Madrid .

Midfielder Pogba has spent the summer publicly calling to exit Old Trafford, with Real the most likely destination.

But United have put a spanner in his plans by snubbing a low offer of £27.4million, plus forward James Rodriguez, according to the Times.

Ed Woodward, who bought Pogba for a then world record £89m has put a £150m price tag on the World Cup winner.

According to sources in Spain, Real were unable to get close to that price which leaves the transfer in the balance - with four days to go before the Premier League transfer window slams shut, although La Liga have until September 2 to beat the deadline.

Pogba didn't play in United's final pre-season friendly against AC Milan recently, but

"We will see what is going to happen," Matic said of Pogba's situation.

"He's a Manchester United player and of course we will be happy if he stays.

"He is a great player and very important for the team.

"I don't see that he's going to leave. But in football anything is possible."

One piece of movement that will happen is the arrival of Harry Maguire from Leicester .

Centre back Maguire underwent his medical at United's Carrington training centre after the two clubs had agreed an £80m fee, a record for a defender.

And manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to push on and land 'one or two' more players before the transfer window slams shut in a few days.

He told PA: "We're still hoping one or two deals can be done. We've been working on cases for a long time and suddenly the deal can be done when it's dragging on.

"As a club we've had targets, but as a coach and manager when you go out on the pitch you have to work with the ones you have.

"You can't think 'what if he comes' or 'if he's sold'. The reality is you have to work with the ones that are there. I've never been thinking 'I'll play him there but he's coming in'."
