Paul Pogba sends message to fans after Manchester United's Europa League final defeat

Paul Pogba has reacted to Manchester United's defeat by Villarreal in the Europa League final.

Despite much anticipation, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reaching the first final of his United managerial career, the Reds delivered a lacklustre performance on Wednesday in Gdansk, falling at the last hurdle in the penalty shootout against the Spanish side.

The United manager's decision to play Pogba in a deeper role was a key talking point as the analysis of just how the Europa League final defeat ensued, because ultimately the World Cup winner was not at his influential best.

Rather surprisingly, the Frenchman made way for Daniel James in extra-time and was therefore unable to take a penalty, but he's now finally reacted to the defeat two days later, sharing a post on social media to reflect on United's humbling in Poland.

"I needed some days to reflect after the match," Pogba wrote on his Instagram.

"Of course, very upset not to win the final but we’re a team that will look forward with our heads held high.

"Thank you to all of the fans for the support. We will come back stronger."
