Paul Pogba's transfer vow suggests he wasn't expecting Kylian Mbappe's private confession

A recent video of Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappe appeared to show the latter confessing he's fed up at Paris Saint-Germain, despite the Manchester United ace expressing an interest to play for the Ligue 1 outfit when his Old Trafford expires in June.

Pogba and Mbappe met up on international duty earlier this week, as France continue their preparations ahead of their defence at this year's World Cup in Qatar. France will face Ivory Coast and South Africa in friendlies over the coming days.

The video in question - shared by France's social media team - appeared to show Pogba asking Mbappe how he was doing. "I'm a little fed up," came the reply. Like Pogba, Mbappe is also out of contract in June and is expected to join Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Speaking to French outlet Le Figaro earlier this week, Pogba admitted his interest in joining PSG. "Why not?" said Pogba when asked. "It's always nice to play with your teammates in the national team and club."

Only two PSG players were included in Didier Deschamps' squad for this month's friendlies, with Presnel Kimpembe joining Mbappe in the group. There is a lack of French talent in PSG's squad, as Layvin Kurzawa is the only other player to pick up a senior cap.

That figure will drop even lower if Mbappe quits the French capital. "I cannot say precisely what the chances are that Mbappe extends but we have possibilities," PSG sporting director Leonardo told reporters after the team's Champions League exit.

Despite dominating domestically since Qatar Sports Investments - a subsidiary of Qatar's sovereign-wealth fund - purchased the club in 2011, PSG have failed to become champions of Europe. The closest they've got is their final defeat to Bayern Munich in 2020.

PSG's most recent European humbling came at the hands of Real, conceding a late Karim Benzema hat-trick to suffer a 3-2 aggregate defeat in the last 16. A decision on Mbappe's future could be made shortly now PSG's European fate is confirmed.

"I've not decided my future," said Mbappe in February. "I play for Paris Saint-Germain, one of the best clubs in the world. This game [vs Real] to influence my future? No – I've not decided, I give my best and then we will see what happens next season."

Pogba's interview with Le Figaro will annoy some United fans, as the midfielder criticised the club's recent trophy drought. The Red Devils haven't won a major honour since 2017 and are at risk of missing out on Champions League football next season.

United are sixth in the Premier League, four points behind Arsenal in fourth having played a game more. Tottenham and West Ham are also in the race for Champions League football. The gap between Ralf Rangnick's side and leaders Manchester City is 20 points.

"You have to be honest, the last five seasons have not satisfied me – really not at all," added Pogba. "This year it is dead, we won't win anything. Whether it is with Manchester United or at another club, I want to win trophies."
