Paul Pogba's scathing verdict of Jose Mourinho is already coming true at Tottenham

Paul Pogba has cited man-management methods as the biggest difference between Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Prior to the Portuguese tactician being named Tottenham Hotspur head coach, he had a spell at Manchester United where the Frenchman became his record signing at £89million in the summer of 2016.

Together, Mourinho and Pogba won the League Cup and Europa League in the 2016/17 season before their relationship deteriorated after a trophy-less second season and a poor start to the 2018/19 campaign.

There was the infamous training ground spat between the pair after Mourinho had stripped Pogba of being Man United's vice-captain - and it all ended when the former was relieved of his duties in December 2018.

Solskjaer would take the helm - initially on an interim basis before being appointed permanently - and has impressed Pogba with his differing man-management style to that of Mourinho.

"What I have now with Ole is different, he wouldn't go against the players," Pogba told Sky Sports in an interview. "He wouldn't go against the players.

"Maybe Ole wouldn't pick them, but it's not like he puts them on the side like they don't exist anymore.

"That's the difference between Mourinho and Ole.

"Once I had a great relationship with Mourinho, everybody saw that, and the next day you don't know what happened.

"That's the strange thing I had with Mourinho and I cannot explain to you because even I don't know. So, yeah."

In addition, Pogba praised his manager for helping turn Luke Shaw's career around after the left-back had experienced a difficult time under Mourinho.

"Maybe [Solskjaer's methods work] because he is a bit closer to the people," Pogba added. "Every coach has their own way to coach and deal with players, and as a player you have to adapt. Sometimes it doesn't suit you and sometimes it does.

"Ole has helped Luke a lot, it was a difficult season with Luke and Mourinho, and he has proved he has the quality he always had and the trust of the manager."

Pogba's comments regarding Mourinho putting players on the side 'like they don't exist anymore' may ring true regarding a couple of current Tottenham players.

Dele Alli and Harry Winks were regulars when Mourinho was first appointed last season and started the opening game of the current campaign against Everton.

However, both have fallen out of favour as the season has progressed with Premier League minutes few and far between.
