Paul Pogba's Manchester United return to be assessed this week

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba will meet with doctors at the end of this week to discuss his progress as he continues his recovery from injury.

The central midfielder recently had an ankle operation and has been undergoing rehabilitation as he tries to get back on the pitch as soon as possible.

Depending on how the doctors see his condition, Pogba could be back in full training by the end of the month, and according to The Sun he may be in line to return for derby match against Manchester City on March 8.

Pogba made just five appearances this season before he got injured in the 1-1 draw with Arsenal in September, and although he made a comeback off the bench against Watford and Newcastle in December he has again been out since then with further ankle troubles.

Pogba's future has been the source of constant speculation ever since he admitted over the summer that he would be interested in a "new challenge."

His agent Mino Raiola has recently upset United with his comments, and he tweeted ahead of their game against Chelsea on Monday saying: "Paul is not mine and for sure not Solskjaer's property, Paul is Paul Pogba's. You cannot own a human being already for a long time in the UK or anywhere else. I HOPE Solskjaer DO NOT WANT TO SUGGEST THAT PAUL IS HIS PRISONER."

It remains to be seen whether Solskjaer decides to restore Pogba to his starting line-up, with the likes of Fred and Nemanja Matic impressing in his absence, but the 26-year-old will no doubt be keen to perform ahead of this summer's European Championships as he tries to prove to manager Didier Deschamps that he is fit.

United are next in action on Thursday evening as they face Club Brugge in the first leg of their Europa League last-32 tie.
