Paul Pogba's Cristiano Ronaldo 'demand' hampering Man United contract extension

Paul Pogba is reportedly happy to extend his Manchester United contract on one condition: he is the club's highest earner.

The demand would see him pocket over £500,000 and take home more than summer signing Cristiano Ronaldo, who returned to the club, from Italian giants Juventus, in the final days of the transfer window.

Pogba ’s current contract expires in the summer and the Frenchman will be able to talk to clubs outside of Europe from January 1.

According to French media outlet L’Equipe, Pogba will put pen to paper on a contract extension if he is made the Premier League's highest earner.

Pogba started the season for United in red-hot form, providing four assists in the league opener against Leeds United before adding a further three over the next three games, strengthening his case for such hefty demands.

But his form has dove-tailed since, culminating in a red card against Liverpool, having come on as a substitute, and then being sidelined until the New Year with a thigh injury picked up on international duty with France at the start of the week.

L’Equipe claim United have accepted Pogba's resale value has decreased and will push for a resolution to the ongoing contract saga over the next few weeks.

Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, told The Times last month: "You would have to ask Manchester United about it [a contract extension]. At this moment everything is calm. There is no update."

Pogba re-joined United from Juventus in 2016 for a fee of £89.3million, a then world-record fee, having left Old Trafford on a free transfer in 2012.
