Paul Pogba's brother takes "100%" credit for transfer after Man Utd "false promises"

As Paul Pogba moves closer to a second Manchester United departure, his brother Mathias has taken credit for the French international's impressive spell in Turin.

Pogba has been linked with a second spell in Turin, after what has ended up being an underwhelming second spell at Old Trafford. However, Juve aren't the only club thought to be in the mix with just months remaining on the midfielder's contract in Manchester.

Mathias Pogba has opened up about some of the "false promises" which prompted his brother's first departure. And his latest comments come amid claims from the £89.3m man that he has not been enjoying his time back in England.

“Not only did I push him a little: it’s thanks to me that he signed there!" Mathias Pogba told So Foot (via Sport Witness ). "I convinced him, 100%. And look at the player he has become.

"In Manchester, they were making him false promises,” added the 31-year-old, who played international football for Guinea, referring to the lack of regular game time under Sir Alex Ferguson.. He added that his role in Paul's career is "The role of a big brother, quite simply: no more, no less. I will advise until my death".

The younger Pogba brother won a league title in each of his four seasons in Juventus before returning to United in a club record move. However, since lifting the Europa League trophy in his first season back, he has not added further honours at club level.

"Nothing is decided on my future, there is nothing done," Paul Pogba told Telefoot amid speculation over his future. "I can decide tomorrow, as I can decide during the transfer window.," he added.

"I want to come back, finish the season well. The season is not over yet, but almost because we don't have any more titles to play for. I want to win titles, to play for something and this year and the last few years we haven't won a title. It's sad."

After winning two cup competitions with United in 2017, Pogba was celebrating a World Cup victory with France the following year. However, while he has continued to play an important role for Les Bleus, the same can't be said of his club football.

The former Juve man has played just 16 league games this season, not all of them starts, and just 23 in all competitions. This can only partly be blamed on an injury he sustained on international duty with France in the autumn.

Back in December, when Pogba was back on the comeback trail, interim manager Ralf Rangnick recognised the player's future was far from secure and vocalised as much. "If a player doesn't want to play for a club like Manchester United, even in the long term, I don't think it makes sense to convince him to change his mind," the German said.
