Paul Pogba responds to claims Man Utd have offered him a £500,00-per-week contract

Paul Pogba has poured cold water on speculation he has been presented with a mammoth new contract at Manchester United.

The midfielder, 28, insists his only focus is on returning from injury and that the club have made no offer of an extension "in recent months".

Pogba is out of contract at the end of the season and he is currently free to talk to clubs outside England, with Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus among his suitors.

In a bid to avoid losing the Frenchman for free this summer, United reportedly offered him a lucrative new deal worth an eye-watering £500,000 per week in early January.

However, a spokesperson for Pogba has refuted these claims and insists there is no fresh offer on the table.

"To clarify media reports, Paul has not been offered a new contract in recent months," the spokesperson told the Daily Mail.

"Paul is fully focused on his recovery from injury with the aim of helping the team as soon as possible."

Pogba - who moved to Old Trafford in a £89million transfer from Juventus in 2016 - has been out of action since suffering a hamstring injury during the November international break.

This means he is yet to make an appearance under United interim manager Ralf Rangnick, who took over from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following the Norwegian's sacking.

Rangnick issued a stern message to Pogba in December, suggesting he is only interested in working with players who are dedicated to the club rather than contract rebels.

"I wouldn't say he is not worth keeping but players need to want to stay and play for the club," the German said.

"If a player doesn't want to play for a club like Manchester United, even in the long term, I don't think it makes sense to convince him to change his mind.

"This is such a massive club, with fantastic support, I don't think anyone at the club should try to convince a player to stay.

"Let's have him come back, get fully fit and training with the team, then we will see where we stand."

Pogba started the season in brilliant form with seven assists in the first four Premier League games of the season, excelling on the left wing.

But his form took a turn for the worse and his last top-flight appearance came in the 5-0 thrashing by Liverpool in October, during which he came off the bench at half-time and was sent off for a horror tackle after just 15 minutes.

Pogba is expected to return to fitness in February.
