Paul Pogba posts injury update as Man Utd star steps up return bid after ankle surgery

Paul Pogba has a posted a promising workout video on his Instagram account as the Manchester United star continues to work his way back to fitness.

Pogba has been absent since 26 December, with the World Cup winner undergoing ankle surgery at the beginning of January.

The Frenchman has featured in just seven Premier League games for United this season, having been out of action for almost three months between October and December.

The Red Devils have struggled without Pogba, who is currently continuing his rehab in Dubai.

They’re currently seventh in the league, below the likes of Sheffield United, with just 35 points from 25 games.

They’ve lost more league games than they’ve won since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer became the permanent manager, leading to speculation about his future.

There has also been fan discontent over the club’s ownership under the Glazers.

Pogba’s absence has been exacerbated by the injury to Scott McTominay, leaving them short on midfield options.

But the Frenchman insists that he will be back soon, and posted the message: "Slowly, but surely".

Bruno Fernandes was brought in during the January transfer window from Sporting Lisbon for £47 million, which could increase to £67 million thanks to add-ons, to help plug the gap.

Pogba has been linked with a move away during his time on the sidelines.

Zinedine Zidane’s Real Madrid have been rumoured to be interested in signing the 26-year-old, who is contracted to Old Trafford until 2021.

However, an encouraging video of Pogba doing various exercises at the NAS Sports Complex Staff Gym in Dubai has left United fans excited about his potential return before the end of the campaign.

He won’t be present though when the squad travel to Marbella on Saturday for a warm-weather training camp during the Premier League’s winter break.

Their next game is at Chelsea on 17 February as the battle to finish in the top four and secure Champions League football next season intensifies.
