Paul Pogba named as Premier League's best midfielder with one huge Kevin De Bruyne catch

Paul Pogba is the best midfielder in the Premier League right now, according to Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson.

The Manchester United star has opened the season in terrific form for both club and country, registering seven assists in four Premier League games so far in what is a record-breaking return.

He is also the player with the most assists in the division in 2021 with ten, making him the most creative midfielder in the league right now.

But during a discussion on Sky Sports' Soccer Saturday, Merson said that for him that made him the best midfielder in the league right now and he'd pick Pogba if he could only pick one.

"As we talk today, he's [Pogba] as effective as any player," he said.

"[Mateo] Kovacic has been outstanding but I've got to go with Pogba. Pogba has got seven assists. If you're a midfield player, your job is to make chances for players and he's produced that at the moment, so I'd have to go Pogba."

Clinton Morrison added: "When everyone is fit, I'd have to say Kevin De Bruyne."

Merson then agreed, adding: "It ain't even a competition!"

World Cup winner Pogba will look to continue that brilliant form on Sunday when Manchester United travel to east London to take on West Ham United as they look to continue at the top of the Premier League table.
