Paul Pogba hails Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo after sealing Manchester United transfers

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has delivered glowing assessments of both Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane following their arrivals at Old Trafford.

Both players completed switches to United last month as manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looked to add fresh quality and flashes of energy to his squad.

Varane joined United in mid-August after a long-term pursuit, joining the club in a big-money deal from Spanish giants Real Madrid, whilst Ronaldo completed a fairytale return to Old Trafford on transfer deadline day from Juventus.

Ronaldo's return to United should give Solskjaer's troops the final lift they require to mount a genuine Premier League title charge this season and Pogba, who played the full 90 minutes of France's surprise 1-1 draw with Ukraine in their latest FIFA World Cup qualifier on Saturday evening, believes his addition to the squad will help their level "increase."

"It’s always a pleasure to play with the best," Pogba told Telefoot. "It’s a boost for the team, the level will increase.

"We want everything to go very well."

Whilst next Saturday's clash with Newcastle United could represent Ronaldo's second debut for the Reds, the occasion could also mark Varane's home debut for the club. The Frenchman made his first appearance for United last weekend, helping them secure a 1-0 away win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux.

Pogba, of course, knows exactly what Varane will add to the United ranks, spending no shortage of time with him on international duty.

"The arrival of Raph [Varane] is always positive, especially for the club," Pogba added. "We have a very good relationship, we have known each other for a very long time.

"I am happy that he is with us and that he brings his experience and qualities."
