Paul Pogba dropped by Man United because Ole Gunnar Solskjaer 'doesn't trust him', pundits agree

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is unable to "trust" Paul Pogba, following his omission from the starting line-up against Atalanta this evening, according to BT Sport pundits Peter Crouch and Paul Scholes.

Pogba is one of three United players axed from the starting line-up, which went down 4-2 to Leicester City, for Wednesday's UEFA Champions League clash with the Italian outfit Old Trafford.

The Frenchman, alongside Jadon Sancho and Nemanja Matic, has been dropped to the bench, with Scott McTominay and Fred preferred in the middle and Marcus Rashford handed his first start of the season on the left.

Pogba had been one of United's better performers this season but a recent downturn in form has seen Solskjaer look elsewhere.

Pogba's omission from the starting line-up, in the eyes of former Liverpool and England striker Crouch, is down to Solskjaer's inability to trust the former Juventus midfielder.

Crouch told BT Sport : "It’s obvious the manager can't trust him. I think he’d rather play Liverpool because they’re better when they're counter-attacking.

"The lack of trust in Pogba is evident; he’s gone with Fred and McTominay because he can trust them and they are disciplined."

Former United midfielder Scholes was in agreement with the now-40-year-old.

"Peter’s hit the nail on the head, I don't think Ole can trust him," Scholes admitted. "He’s tried to trust him, he's given him loads of chances and he really wants to, but he’s seen the lack of discipline Pogba has in that position and could cost them dearly.

"Lack of trust in a player is not good, but he’s got to get over it."

Pogba's absence from the starting line-up this evening is just the third time that he has been left out of the starting XI this season, with the 1-1 draw with Everton and 1-0 defeat to West Ham United in the Carabao Cup being the only two other occasions.
