Paul Pogba doing extra training ahead of Manchester United comeback

Paul Pogba is doing additional training sessions as he approaches his long-awaited comeback for Manchester United.

The MEN understands Pogba, 26, has been staying later at United's Carrington complex to work on his recovery from ankle surgery ahead of an expected return to full training this week.

Pogba was doing the individual sessions last week and United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claimed the Frenchman was set to resume training with teammates again ahead of the weekend fixture away at Tottenham Hotspur.

"Paul's still working with the physios outside and he won't be training with the first-team until next week," Solskjaer said on Wednesday. "And then let's see how long that will take. He needs time to get his football fitness back."

Pogba was in attendance at Old Trafford for United's 2-0 derby win over Manchester City on Sunday and reacted to the victory by posting 'Manchester is red' on his Instagram account.

The France international has started six times this season and last lined up for United in the 1-1 Premier League draw with Arsenal on September 30. Pogba played 71 minutes in the back-to-back games with Watford and Newcastle United in late December but underwent ankle surgery in early January.

Solskjaer originally said Pogba would be sidelined for 'three to four weeks' yet the Frenchman has been out for over 10 weeks. Pogba missed three games in September with an ankle problem he sustained in the stalemate with Southampton on August 31, but after starts against Rochdale and Arsenal was out for nearly three months.

United's trip to Tottenham on Sunday is sandwiched between their Europa League round-of-16 ties against LASK Linz, and they travel to Norwich City on March 20 for their FA Cup quarter-final before the March internationals.

France host Ukraine and Finland in friendlies later this month.
