Paul Pogba could make his long-awaited return to football against Tottenham in the Champions League later this month.

The former Manchester United midfielder has been cleared to play since early 2025 after seeing his four-year ban following a positive test result for dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), that started on 11 September, 2023, reduced to 18 months on appeal.

Pogba became a free agent last November after reaching an agreement with Juventus to terminate his contract which was due to run until June 2026.

He then joined Monaco on a free transfer earlier in the summer but is yet to feature for the club due to a strict training programme that has been put in place to get the midfielder fit after such a long period on the sidelines.

Monaco manager Adi Hutter recently confirmed the club were sticking to their three-month return to action plan for Pogba and delivered a timeline for the midfielder’s debut ahead of the Manchester City clash.

Hutter said: “We maybe expected him to be in the squad against Nice, but we may need to wait until Angers.

“We hope that, after the international break, he can play.”

Pogba, will therefore, miss Wednesday night’s home game with Pep Guardiola’s side as well as the Ligue 1 clash at home to Nice on Sunday afternoon.

However, if all goes to plan and the 32-year-old is available for selection after the international break, then he could feature in the league game away at Angers.

Furthermore, his home debut for Monaco could come against Tottenham on matchday three of this season’s Champions League with Spurs the visitors to the Stade Louis II in three weeks.

Pogba is eligible to feature in the league phase of the Champions League having been included in Monaco’s squad for the league phase by Hutter.
