Paul Pogba and Raphael Varane hold chat amid conflicting Man Utd futures

Paul Pogba and Raphael Varane have been chatting on Facetime just days after the latter's move to Manchester United was all but sealed.

Man Utd confirmed that a deal had been agreed in principle with Real Madrid over the signing of Varane on Tuesday evening as they continue their run of statement signings.

Long-term target Jadon Sancho has finally been secured from Borussia Dortmund to the tune of £73m, meaning United's spending for the summer has already surpassed £110m when Varane's £42m fee is factored in.

However, while the story of United's summer so far is big-name arrivals, one of their biggest stars could be nearing the Old Trafford exit in Paul Pogba.

Despite the fact both stars were all smiles on Facetime, the pair's club futures could potentially be heading in opposite directions, as while Varane arrives, Pogba's time in Manchester could be nearing its end.

The Frenchman has regularly been touted with a move back to his home country to sign for Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain.

This is unwelcome news to his United teammates, who are reportedly pleading with the midfielder to reject PSG in favour of being part of the project currently being built by those in charge of the Red Devils.

Pogba stalling over the idea of putting pen to paper on any contract extension with United, well aware his current deal ends next summer.

The Frenchman was at one point the most expensive player in the world when United parted ways with £89m for him in 2016, but are now expected to cut their losses and sell him for less than half of that figure, with a fee of around £43m thought to be enough to tempt United into selling the star.

Varane and Pogba spent the summer together on international duty with France as they suffered a shock exit at the round of 16 stage after losing on penalties to Switzerland.

Much of the United faithful will hope that when Pogba returns from his holiday and touches down at United's training base, the presence of Varane will be enough to tempt him to stay.
