Paul Pierce says Lakers should trade LeBron if they get No. 1 pick

Paul Pierce was always cast as an antagonist to LeBron James, but even in the announcers booth, Pierce is finding new ways to challenge the status of the King.

After yet another disappointing loss on Sunday night in New York at the hands of the league-worst Knicks, it was once again another occasion to pile on LeBron. And although he didn’t post the same photo of Mario Hezonja and LeBron everyone meme’d into oblivion yesterday, he came at the King in another way.

After yesterday’s ABC games, Pierce suggested that if the Lakers somehow win the draft lottery for the 1st pick, they should trade LeBron James.

As Chauncey Billups asked Pierce right before he’s cut off, why? There’s no rule that says if you have a bunch of younger teammates next to LeBron James. And having LeBron James would give them a proven star to help lead their young group.

Now, the skeptics might say didn’t they just try that? Well, they did but they surrounded LeBron and the youngsters with otherwise mercurial veterans that never coalesced into a good group. However, a very real concern could be the cost of the No. 1 pick and how that could affect the Lakers cap space heading into free agency.
