Paul Perkins on Daniel Jones bomb: ‘Most amazing throw I’ve caught’

During Thursday’s training camp practice, New York Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones uncorked a 50-yard bomb that happened to land perfectly in the arms of an out-stretched Paul Perkins.

It was a real “wow” moment for both Jones, who has been accused of having a weak and inaccurate arm, and Paul Perkins, who is looking to return to the field and make an impact for the first time since 2017.

Following that impressive throw, Giants head coach Pat Shurmur embraced his “I told you so” moment.

“It was outstanding. He’s made excellent throws in every practice, and that was evidence to me that he has the arm to play in this league. We sort of knew that before we picked him. We’ve seen it throughout the training, and that was actually a very good throw,” Shurmur told reporters.

Perkins heaped even greater praise upon Jones, calling it the “most amazing throw” he’s ever caught.

“Honestly, I didn’t even think he was gonna throw it,” Perkins told NorthJersey.com and USA TODAY Network Northeast. “I was flanked out [left], it was a go ball, and as soon as I turned around, the ball was in the air. It was a great throw, the most amazing throw I’ve caught, no one else could’ve got it but me. He’s got a great arm, he’s a great kid, and after the play, he told me he was gonna throw it from the beginning.”

A humble Jones was asked about Perkins’ praise, but in much the same way Eli Manning would, he praised the running back for a good route and a better catch.

“I don’t know. . . He can catch, he can do a lot,” Jones told NFL Network. “I just tried to put it out there for him and he ran under of it. That was a heck of a catch.”

The future is bright for the Giants.
