Paul O'Grady stuns fans with family announcement in rare social media post

Paul O'Grady fans were gobsmacked when they learned of his grandson's age in a new social media post.

The ITV Paul O'Grady's For The Love of Dogs star took to his Instagram to share a picture of his grandson, Abel, for his birthday.

However, fans were left with their jaws on the floor when they realised he was turning 16 years old.

"This little monster is 16 today," the 67-year-old posted. "Happy Birthday Abel love GanGan xx."

He posted it along with a picture of a younger Abel smiling for the camera while in his pyjamas.

Fans couldn't believe their eyes and questioned 'where the time has gone' in the comment section.

"What? No way? Oh Paul where do the years go? Please wish him a big happy birthday from me too," Gaby Roslin wrote.

Another user added: "I can’t believe it. 16?!."

"I can remember you talking about your daughter just having him when you were still doing your show. Definitely doesn’t seem like 16 years ago," one shocked user posted.

A follower also wrote: "WHAT?!!!! No way would I have said he was 16 today. I too remember you introducing him on the show as a newborn."

Back in 2008, the besotted granddad told the Liverpool Echo: "He’s gorgeous. He’s 14 months – he’s crawling and stuff. He’s just a lovely little kid. He got very clingy to me, while he was here.

"It’s nice, as soon as I’d walk in the kitchen, he’d put his arms up. My daughter would say ‘Oh, here we go. I can see trouble here!'"

Back in 1974, Paul welcomed his daughter, Sharon, with close friend Diane Jansen.

The TV star has a great relationship with his only child, and he even gave her away at her wedding when she tied the knot with her childhood friend, Philip Moseley.

Paul was joined by Queen Consort Camilla Parker Bowles for a very special episode of For The Love of Dogs (ITV)

Lifting the lid on the special day and his special bond with Sharon, Paul previously said: "It was a really great day. Sharon looked fabulous and Philip is a smashing fella. They fit together like a pan and a lid.

“Sharon wore a lovely floaty pale pink dress – because she looks shocking in white. She looked like a Disney princess."

Meanwhile, Paul has been married to ballet ace Andre Portasio - 25 years his junior - since 2017.

He tied the knot with former English National Ballet star Andre Portasio, 42 , at the plush Goring Hotel in Central London.

Paul and Andre first started dating 16 years ago.
