Paul O’Grady’s funeral to take place this week as locals invited to pay respects

Paul O’Grady will be laid to rest in a private ceremony in Kent this week, it is reported.

The entertainer died “unexpectedly but peacefully” on March 28 aged 67 from sudden cardiac arrhythmia.

It has now been reported that the national treasure’s funeral will take place on Thursday, April 20, at Aldington Church.

Residents in the village where O’Grady lived with husband Andre Portasio have reportedly been “invited to line three streets as a mark of respect” while the service itself will remain “completely private”.

A source told The Sun: “Paul’s funeral will be completely private, but Andre wanted to make sure locals were involved in some form.

“He has invited them to come out on Thursday and pay their respects to the cortege which will be taken down three certain streets in the village.

“A post was shared on the local community group by Andre, so the word has started to spread.”

Last week, MailOnline revealed that a separate memorial service will be held for O’Grady at Port Lympne Safari Park, which was just three miles from his Aldington home.

The Lily Savage star was a regular visitor at the reserve, owned by conservationist Damian Aspinall, and judged competitions for them.

In light of his passing, his family believe he would’ve wanted the animals he adored to “be around” to celebrate his life.

Late last month, Portasio announced the sad news that the TV star had died.

He shared on social media at the time: “It is with great sadness that I inform you that Paul has passed away unexpectedly but peacefully yesterday evening,” he said last month.

“We ask, at this difficult time, that whilst you celebrate his life you also respect our privacy as we come to terms with this loss. He will be greatly missed by his loved ones, friends, family, animals and all those who enjoyed his humour, wit and compassion.

“I know that he would want me to thank you for all the love you have shown him over the years.”

Following his passing, tributes flooded in for the performer from friends Amanda Holden, Zoe Ball, and Lorraine Kelly.
