Normal People star Paul Mescal has left fans disappointed after revealing that the possibility of a season two being in the works is "not in the cards"
People fell in love with the show and the young couple, eagerly awaiting news about another season.
Even Mescal admitted the shows final episode left a lot of "unanswered questions" about Connell and Marianne's futures.

Speaking to Wonderland Magazine he said: “Oh, there's no question that character to me is still alive and breathing and very much has a lot of life left to live, and has a relationship with Marianne that is maybe unfinished," he said.
“I do feel like the series that has finished is its own thing, and I'm totally comfortable with that.
"It's not on the cards at the moment, but if I got the opportunity to play him again, amazing.”

With the show ending with both of the young couple planning their futures and heading in separate directions, fans who were eager for a happy ending were left wanting more.
Mescal added: “I thought it was just the most beautifully sad ending to a story,"
“Totally, the romantic in me is like why doesn't she just tell him to stay? Or why doesn't she come over to New York?
“But it doesn't make sense in the reality of those two characters’ lives. I think ultimately if they did decide to stay together at that moment, it would be way more disappointing than the reality of the ending,"
If a second series of the show was to created, fans would be completely in the dark to the path the story could take as Author Sally Rooney hasn't written a sequel to her book.
Whether the show is continued in a second season or not, the first season has been a huge hit amongst viewers, even gaining popularity amongst lots of celebrity viewers.
