Paul Mescal has revealed he wants to “protect” his “deeply precious” relationship with Gracie Abrams - and shared his plans for becoming a father.
The Normal People actor, 29, went Instagram official with Abrams, 26, in July, with the singer sharing a sweet selfie of the couple cosied up on a blanket at Glastonbury.
Mescal was asked if there was a particular moment that made the pair decide to go public with their romance, during an interview with Rolling Stone.
“I don’t know how to answer that,” the Aftersun star said.
“I actually do have an answer, but everything to do with that is deeply precious to me and I don’t want to.… This isn’t… I don’t really… umm … I want to protect those things fundamentally.”
The Hamnet actor, who was promoting his new film The History Of Sound, also shared his hopes for having a family.
“I love babies with very adult names,” he said. “I would love to have a family. I’m not like, ‘I want them tomorrow,’ but I would love to have kids.”
Mescal and Abrams were first romantically linked in June 2024 when they were spotted enjoying a cosy dinner date and have been seen enjoying dates in New York and London since.
The That’s So True singer joined Mescal at the Gladiator II premiere after-party in November 2024.
They have since been photographed at the same event multiple times but have never walked the red carpet together.
Songwriter Abrams has shared several PDA-filled snaps with the Gladiator actor since they went public with their relationship.
Mescal previously dated singer Phoebe Bridgers from 2020 to 2022.
He appeared in her music video for Savior Complex and provided backing vocals for Bridgers’ cover of The Handsome Family’s So Much Wine.
Abrams' romantic history has always been a hot topic of conversation as the daughter of a well-known couple, famed Star Wars director J.J. Abrams and social activist Katie McGrath.
Abrams dated producer Blake Slatkin from 2016 until 2022. Since then, the two have collaborated on a number of projects.
After they split up, rumours started circulating that Abrams was dating actor Dylan O'Brien. Neither side has denied the rumours.
Additionally, Abrams was said to be dating DJ Hayes Bradley but that was never confirmed either.
