Paul Mescal's mum in tears on Late Late Show as superstar's sister performs new single

Paul Mescal's mum couldn't hold back her tears in the audience after watching her daughter Nell perform her brand-new highly-rated single on the Late Late show.

The 19-year-old singer and sister of Normal People superstar Paul Mescal took to the stage on last night's Late Late show, treating the crowd and viewers to her debut single Homesick.

Following the Kildare teenager's performance, host Ryan Tubridy walked into the audience to speak with Paul and Nell's mum, Derbhla, as she struggled to fight back the tears.

"Well done Nell. I was watching Nell but I was also watching you two (mum and dad Paul). It looks like you sung every word. You are actually quite emotional about it, tell me why," Ryan asked her mum.

She responded by saying that she thought her daughter was "incredible" and that she was "very proud" of her especially because "she works so hard."

Ryan highlighted that Rolling Stones Magazine tipped Nell Mescal to become one of 2023's "most relevant and relatable voices" following the release of Homesick, released via LAB Records.

The RTÉ presenter asked Nell's mum if watching her teenage daughter made her nervous.

"It does. She's very young, she is only 19. She has known what she has wanted to do since she was so young and she now has this incredible band and they are just so good," said Dearbhla, who is a garda officer.

Following her response, Ryan asked Nell how she was feeling up on stage. She too found it difficult to hold back the tears after hearing her mother speak of how proud she is.

It didn't take long for Twitter to blow up in admiration for the mother and daughter pair.

One user said: "Nell has a great voice. And Mescal mammy seems so lovely...and immensely proud of her 19 year old. Easy to see where Paul gets it from. Nice moment."

Nell, who released the single Homesick only two days ago, on January 18, which tells of her efforts at emigrating to London, posted a quick snap backstage post performance.

"Well that was so fun can’t believe I cried on telly," she wrote, following her Late Late performance.
