Paul Mescal's family 'still love him' despite star missing out on Emmy

Paul Mescal’s family jokingly told him they still loved him after he missed out on winning an Emmy.

The Kildare star was nominated for his first television role in Normal People opposite some of Hollywood’s most acclaimed actors.

The 24-year-old got the nod in the lead actor category for a limited series or movie, alongside Jeremy Irons, Hugh Jackman and Jeremy Pope, with Mark Ruffalo picking up the gong.

After the virtual ceremony, Paul’s musician sister, Nell, took to her Instagram story to post a hilarious screenshot of the family with the tagline: “We still love you”.

Paul’s mother can be seen grinning while making an L sign with her hand on her forehead.

His mother had previously taken to social media in recent weeks to tell her talented son to “enjoy the ride”.

The actor was filmed strutting around Claridge’s Hotel in the video for the legendary rock band’s single, Scarlet.

He tweeted: “Mum this is all a bit mad.”

His mother Dearbhla replied: “Just a bit... But boy it’s the best kinda crazy... Enjoy the ride.”

Paul recently revealed how he received a lovely email from his fellow nominee Hugh Jackman.

In an Instagram post before the ceremony he opened up about the surreal nature of attending the virtual Emmys from his home.

“This is nuts. I am wearing @louisvuitton on my stairs for the Emmys!”

Cork actress Fiona Shaw, who was nominated for best supporting actress in a drama for her role on Killing Eve, also missed out on an award in her category.
