Paul Mescal responds to Rubberbandits tweet that he should play Michael Collins on the big screen - and fans really like the idea too

Paul Mescal has replied to a tweet from the Rubberbandits in which they say that he should play Michael Collins on the big screen.

The Rubberbandits' BlindBoy Boat Club stirred some discussion today by tweeting that he could see the Normal People star playing Irish revolutionary Michael Collins in a film or on TV

The tweet read: " I’d like to see Paul Mescal play Michael Collins. He has the right type of head for the role"

Mescal retweeted him, simply adding : "I'm in"

Paul was delighted with the comparison and is definitely up for it. (Twitter)

There's been a whole film made in the past about Michael Collins and his role in the Irish struggle for independence, but that film was made all the way back in 1996 and given Collins' and Mescals popularity amongst Irish people, respectively, it's a combination that could work really well.

Fans on twitter also seemed enthusiastic about the prospect of the actor taking on the role.

One said: "Oh yes!!!!"

Another agreed: "That’s such a good shout"

A third replied: " Weirdly know EXACTLY what you mean by this"

One person had some concerns though writing: "Is he tall enough,or standing on a box?"
