Paul Mescal releases new music ahead of new Irish crime podcast

Paul Mescal has released a brand new music ahead of new starring role in an Irish crime podcast.

The Normal People star from Co. Kildare has been announced as one of the voices of 'Black Alley', a new scripted podcast series from Springheel Productions that will focus on fictional crime stories.

The Maynooth man will be in good company in the new series, with top Irish talents including Love/Hate’s Tom Vaughn-Lawlor, Game of Thrones’ Frank Blake and Young Offenders stars Alex Murphy and Chris Walley also starring.

As part of his new role, the 25-year-old, who has shown off his voice with Irish singer Dermot Kennedy in the past, lends his voice to a track called Black To The Bed, that will feature in his episode, Thunder.

And the production bosses teased yesterday[Tue] that there’s more to come ahead of Paul’s episode.

The synopsis for Thunder, which premieres on June 15th, reads: "It's a cold and stormy night. One by one, a gang of robbers arrive back at their den.

“When their chief arrives, he explains that he’s hidden the score.

“He’ll take them out individually to give them their cut. Which means most of them will have to wait.

"Stories are told, songs are sung. But this gang is more than a bit impatient. Because there’s more than one plan afoot. How do you avoid being bitten in a pit full of snakes?"

Springheel Productions describe the new series as ‘a new anthology fiction podcast’ starring some of the biggest names in Irish film and television.

“Each episode is a standalone story, which takes place in an interconnected universe of crime, eccentricity, and truly awful people," they added.

The series will also feature Meadhbh Maxwell (Normal People), Niamh McCann (Brooklyn), Eanna Hardwicke (Vivarium), and Peter Coonan (Dark Lies The Island).

The first episode Black Alley is available on Spotify, iTunes or wherever you get your podcasts on June 1st, with a fortnightly edition of the show until July 13th.
